First Day of School

Thursday was our first day of school.  For the first time in the 5 years I have been teaching, I was not ready to go back.  I think it had mostly to do with all of those wonderful snow days that we had tacked to the end of our calendar, which shortened our break by like a week and a half.  Well, that and the fact that I was at home getting Bennett all recovered from his surgery that last week in July instead of getting a jump on getting my room back in order and my planning under way.  The day went fairly smoothly.  We actually got out of the house a few minutes earlier than we normally do, which is nice.  Berkeley is more excited about school this year than I have seen her in a few years.  Not to say that she hasn't been excited, but this is a different kind of excitement that I haven't seen in her.  I hope it sustains itself for the remainder of the year.  She is in my building this year, so that makes things a little bit easier too.  I don't have to rush quite as much to make sure we get to my school in time for her to catch the shuttle to the other building, like she has had to do in the past.  She did let me take a few pictures before school, but there was some resistance...and of course the other two had to get in there too....

Tubes and Tonsils Follow-up

The twins had their 6 month follow-up visit with their ENT on their tubes, as well as Bennett's post-op check-up.  Bennett looked awesome!  Both tubes were still in and he has healed wonderfully from his surgery.  He was a little apprehensive about the visit, but the offer of cool stickers when we were done made it a-ok.  McKinley, on the other hand, showed her royal booty.  She threw a screaming fit when it was her turn to get her ears checked.  It was a bit ridiculous.  Thankfully, the hole in her right ear has fully closed (when we went for her tubes she had just recovered from a bursted eardrum, so the hole was there, and of course no tube was inserted), and her left tube was still in place.  Hopefully, we will only have 1, maybe 2 more visits and we will be done with the ENT.

School starts tomorrow.  Berkeley and I went shopping for some new clothes for her this morning.  She will officially be a Middle Schooler tomorrow.  Bennett and McKinley are in the process of transferring up the the next class at pre-school.  They are excited and love going to school with their friends.  My babies are all growing up way too fast.  Speaking of.  Here is a snippit of a conversation we had in the car the other day with Berkeley.

Berkeley: "In 2 years, I will get to start driving."
Bill: "No you won't, you will only be 14.......(realization sets in) oh."
Lori Anne: "She can get her permit at 14."

I only know this because I know in the spring all of our 8th graders start getting the itch and start testing.  I wasn't sure of exact rules, so I did a little hunting, and I found that at 14 she can get her permit; at 15, she can get a hardship license (which I don't know that we will qualify for that or even what that means); and at 16, she can get a regular license that include quite a few restrictions such as curfews and cell phones.

Anyway, gosh is that upon us.  In some senses, it will be nice, in other...not so much!

Until next time...
