The Irony of it all...
OK, so we all know that Bill is a huge fan of LSU, and I do support the MSU BULLDOGS...well, someone has too.... Anyway, isn't it ironic that the big and almighty LSU Tigers sit down and LOSE their undefeated season to Kentucky...they pretty much hand the game to the Wildcats on a silver platter, and then...my Bulldogs run all over Kentucky just two weeks later on their home turf!!! Kinda makes you say hmmmm....Yes, the Tigers did beat the Bulldogs, BUT it sure was early in the season. It's just my opinion, but I thingk MSU has a fighting chance at being "good" for a change. I am still not counting on a Bowl Game just yet, but who knows...they ARE doing better than Arkansas for all that matters this year. This whole season is nuts, but it sure does make for some interesting conversations and SEC Saturdays...Gotta Love IT!!!!

ahhh...puppy love
Berkeley turned 9 today...YIKES!!! She is officially entering the pre-teen age. We had her birthday party last night (on top of sick babies). It was good, and she had a great time. She had about 11 friends over to the house and we roasted hotdogs and made smores over a small fire Bill built in the backyard. She also has a pinata...had to have it! She has a little boy who is "sweet on her" as his parents (and brother who is in my class) tell me, and he gave her a "diamond" necklace. I was SO not prepared for that! She says that they are not "BF/GF", they "broke up" last year....LOL. Poor kid was the only boy she invited...AND HE CAME! They sit together at lunch and hang out at school although they are not in the same class. In a way it is so cute...in other ways, not so much!

6 month well-baby check-up
We had our well-baby visit today, and got a good report. The doctor was very pleased with where they were developmentally for their age. Bennett was 16lbs 3oz and 26in long. McKinley was 17lbs 3oz and 24 3/4in long. He found that Bennett had a little separation of his rectus abdominal muscles, but said that would fix itself with time and not to be worried. He explained it as the same thing as a woman's rectus abdominal muscles do when they are pregnant and then go back together afterward. The only thing we questioned was their spitting-up after their bottles. He said that it could be one of two things...it could be partly caused by their sinus drainage that they have had for the past few weeks or that they are eating too much and not being burped enough. So, we are cutting back their formula to 6oz and trying to burp them more often. He said he doesn't expect reflux at this time. Nothing else exciting happened other than the usual vaccinations. Of course they were not very happy about that, but there was only two this time. Anyway, I guess that is it. I can not believe it has been 6 months already. I'll be planning birthday parties before I know it...YIKES!!!

My babies are 6 months!!!
Well, we are celebrating 6 months today!!! Can you believe it!!! It has gone by so super fast. They are getting so big. McKinley is rolling both ways and sliding on her belly backwards. She has not figured out, though, that she can turn herself a certain way and slide around to get her toys. Bennett is rolling around, but pretty much stays right in the middle of his toys on his belly or back. They are eating stage 2 foods, and loving it all!! I think I am gonna start making their food very soon and try and save some money. We will go next week for 6mo. shots...YUCK!!
In other news, we are preparing for Berkeley's upcoming 9th birthday. I can't believe I have a 9 year old! She will be finishing up mini-football tomorrow and in conjunction with the high school's homecoming, they will be having a "mini-homecoming" at their game tomorrow and have a homecoming princess and prince. It ought to be super cute! She is also finishing up her first season of fast-pitch softball. We will have 2 months off, then its on to basketball. It is never ending!
Anyway, I thought I would get an update out. I will post more after their doctor's appointment next week. Hope this finds everyone doing well.
Love, Lori Anne

It’s been a while...
Ok, so it has been a while since I have written, but seriously, I haven't had time to breathe hardly. Berkeley is loving school...of course, and is doing great. She is such a smart little girl! Must take after her mother... :) She is also doing well in softball...adjusting to fastpitch fairly well. The fall league is an odd time in that the older groups have not moved up the the next league yet, but the young ones move up to get a taste of what is to come. Needless to say, we have not had much success on the field, but they are a very young team and will be in this league for 2 -3 seasons. Berkeley has been able to make contact with the ball a few times, but it is a lot different that a machine pitching a consistent pitch. They have not yet realized that they do not have to swing if the the pitch is not right. This of course come with knowing the game and getting used to it. In machine pitch, they get 5 pitches or 3 outs...whichever comes first...with fast pitch, of course, it's 3 strikes your out! In other Berkeley news, she attended cheer camp a few weeks back and performed at the halftime of the high school game on Friday night. They did a dance and a cheer. She's got it in her that is for sure!!! She is also cheering for the mini football teams, and we have been doing those games on Saturday afternoons.
We had the twins' baptism last weekend, and both families were able to join us for the event. It was quite a fiasco with everyone under the same roof, but we had a great visit. They are growing up too fast. Both are trying to figure out how to make their hands and feet move together, so they are scooting everywhere! They are loving their solids, and so far no allergies...not that I had any doubts, but you never know.
Bill and I are managing some peace every once and a while. He is staying busy with work...as of Friday, he is the only project manager for a week until the new one starts next week. Otherwise he is loving his job and the flexibility it has. I am absolutely loving being in 7th grade!! This is where I have needed to be. I know it all along, but as with everything else, it takes time to get where you want to be. It took me 3 years, but I've made it, and I am am content. I have also found a new obsession...photography. I have decided that I need to figure out how to go about learning as much as possible in the shortest amount of time. I have always loved taking pictures, so why not do something for fun on the side and make a few extra dollars. Anyway, I guess that is it for now. Got a baby crying, so I better close this up! Keep in touch.

Busier than ever
I thought that when school started things would slow down. Boy was I wrong. From cheer camp to softball to peewee football, just to name Berkeley's activities, we go constantly. I am glad that I have a kid that wants to be active rather than sitting at home and watching tv all day, but it sometimes is so exhausting. Bill's company sponsored Berkeley's softball team this season, so her team got alot of new equipment to begin their run in this new league. They have her playing shortstop. She was playing 2nd, but she throws the ball to hard and overthrows the 1st base player. I guess that all comes with maturity and learning to control the ball. I thought that was pretty funny, though. As time goes on, she is getting better and better at the game and the dynamics of where and when to throw the ball in different situations.
Bennett and McKinley are growing like weeds. Both are rolling from their tummies to their back, but Bennett is very close to rolling back to tummy. Neither like being on their tummy for long periods of time, so they could really care less about getting there. McKinley is trying to figure out how to get her legs under her and is pushing up on her feet, so she is realizing that she is mobile and is beginning to scoot a little. They both LOVE food. The only thing we have found that they don't care for thus far is green peas. Their favorite being sweet potatoes. They are in full teething mode...and drool everywhere and drench everything they come in contact with. Their little personalities are developing rapidly, and they are so funny to watch. They love their big sister and think she is the funniest thing in the world.
Anyway, as always, we are doing well, and are staying fairly busy. But, that's life...right?

4 month checkup
Well, we went for our 4 month check up on Thursday, and got a great report on both babies as well as the dreaded shots. He said they were very healthy and doing well developmentally. Bennett was13lbs 15.5oz and 23.5in long. McKinley was 14lbs 7oz and 22.5 in long. This is all very fascinating to me considering that their diet is exactly the same. I guess that is the difference between boys and girls..and I guess genetics too. They are cooing and talking and rolling everywhere, and it won't be long before they start trying to sit up...they are already trying to figure out how to do that, and they love their bumbos. They both love for me to put them in their bumbo and set them on the counter while I am doing dishes our cooking or whatever I am doing.
Berkeley had her first softball practice for the fall league this morning. She moved up to the 10 and under league which means that they are now batting off of a real pitcher rather than a machine. Her team is the Razors, and this will probably be the team that she stays with until she moves up to the next level. She really loves playing, and has become a pretty good little ball player. not to be partial or anything, but I think she is one of those kids that is just naturally -good at sports. She is also cheering for the 3rd grade pee-wee football team..this is the first year that they have had a 3rd grade team, so we are going to give it a shot. This is also an area that she is really good at and enjoys doing.
So, as you can see we have a very busy fall ahead of us...if only it would cool off! This is all I have for now. Hope everyone is doing well.

Back to School
Just checking in..haven't been very good about doing that lately. It has been a huge adjustment trying to get everyone ready and out the door so that I can get to school on time. I have really enjoyed being back to work, and the babies seem to be adjusting well to being at the babysitter's house. I have come to realize that it takes a special person to be a stay-at-home-mom, and I am not cut out to do that. The good thing about teaching, is that I am done by 4pm at the latest everyday, so I have a good part of the afternoon and night to be with them and that is a good thing. We go for our 4mo. shots on Thursday, which is never any fun...especially with TWO! They are talking and cooing and smiling and rolling over...I can't believe it has been 4 months already. Berkeley starts 3rd grade on Monday, and we start her fall softball season this Friday...she will be a Diamond Diva. She is going to be moving up in the league to real pitching...instead opf a machine pitch. This season ought to be interesting! Anyway, I wanted to just check in and say hi!

Saying Goodbye
So tonight, I said goodbye to not one but three sets of friends who are moving away next week. I love each and every one of these people dearly and hate to see them go, even though I know they each have their own reasons. I have never known friendship as I did with this group of girls. It is bad enough that one of these dear friends moved last year, but now that the rest of "our group" is gone, I am feeling kind of lonely and abanodoned. I knew this day would come. Each of these ladies are wives of coaches, and therefore move when need be. I just didn't know how hard it would be to see them leave...and that they would all leave at the same time.

Too big too fast!
My babies are growing up way too fast! Today, Bennett rolled over for the first time from his belly to his back. I think it kind of scared him because he made this terribly pitiful pouty face. Amazing...simply amazing. McKinley rolled over for the first time when she was about 2 weeks old...hasn't done it since, but I think she is right behind her "big" brother.

Just an update
Hey everyone! Wow, times just gets away from me these days. We are doing well. The babies are 11 weeks today and getting bigger every day it seems. McKinley is holding her head up fairly well...I think she is pretty much ready to try and sit in her bumbo. Bennett is still a little shaky. Both babies are smiling and "talking" and are taking 5oz bottles every 3-4 hours as well as 2 -4oz cereal bottles a day...one in the morning and one at night. They take their night cereal bottle at about 10pm and sleep until about 6am...not bad. I can handle that.
I have had a not so good week....I began the week by having a minor outpatient surgery on Tuesday to correct my sagging bladder...I know it sounds so old lady, but that is what is was. It was a laproscopic procedure where my doctor put a sling in that supports the muscles that control my ability to "hold it" and not have leaking problems. He said that since I had such hard and traumatic labors...both times, that my muscles just weren't doing their job anymore because they were stretched so much. With this surgery, of course, I can't pick anything up over 10 lbs...and the babies are well over that now. Soooo, I had my mom here for a few days and now friends are in and out on shifts while Bill is at work to help with the babies. My doctor did say that I could lift the babies...one at a time in a week or two, but nothing more than that until I see him in 6 weeks. This is pretty difficult at times since they are both "mommy's babies" and sometimes just want MOM. And instict is to pick them up...and I do, forgetting about what I have been told.
Then yesterday afternoon, I was using a knife to cut open a zip-tie to a toy package, and sliced my finger and ended up in the ER. Luckily, they just used the Dermabond glue to glue it closed, but I did have to get a tetanus shot since I haven't had one in who knows when. This definitely has not been my week. Thank goodness it is almost over!

8 weeks already?!?!
Wow! How time flies. It was only eight weeks ago that we brought our sweet little babies into this big ol' world. They have already brought so much fun, happiness, chaos into our lives that we can't really recall not having them around. Berkeley has adjusted very well, and is just a wonderful little Mommy. She loves her babies dearly and wouldn't take anything for them. Bill and I are learning to carry on our daily routines as sleep deprived parents. I can not wait for a full night's sleep!
We have been fighting thrush. First, only Bennett had it, and I began treating it last Friday, then about Wednesday, McKinley showed signs of having it also, so on Friday, I hauled them to the doctor. He increased the dosage and number of times to give it to them in a day, so hopefully we will get this stuff kicked very soon. Meanwhile, I am steadily boiling everything after we use it. While we were there, the pediatrician did their 8 week physical and immunizations. He said that they look very healthy and are growing nicely. McKinley was 10 lbs. 6 oz. and 20 1/2 inches long. Bennett was 10 lbs. 4 oz. and 20 3/4 inches long. They are smiling and cooing at us and are pretty happy most of the time, although we are beginning to see a little temper coming out in Mr. Bennett. That is all good, though. We are loving every minute of it!!! Stay tuned for more updates as I find time to post them.

GOOD NEWS!!!
Well, I am happy to announce that I was awarded a transfer within the school district from 5th grade to 7th grade. I will still be teaching English, just at the junior high....which is where I have wanted to be since I began teaching. Funny thing is is that I will have my very first group of students again. I am very excited about that...they are a lively bunch of kids who will definitely keep the 7th grade team on our toes. I can't wait!

Hanging in there!
Just gonna post an update on the life and times of our family as we continously adjust to having two babies in the house. Things are going fairly well. I have now been at home with the babies by myself for three weeks. They are eating 4 ounces every three to four hours. Two weeks ago we had to change formula to soy due to tummy issues. I think we finally have all those tummy issues straightened out now, and they are continuing to grow. Both are over 8 pounds now and at last check were 20 inches long. They are getting very close to making their first noises and are attempting to smile. McKinley rolled over from her tummy to her back for the first time last night. We took them for their 1 month photo shoot last weekend. That was an ordeal, indeed. They were not at all happy about having their picture taken, but we got some really cute ones. Anyway, I will try to keep the updates coming as time allows.

How time flies
Wow! How time flies. It seems like just yesterday that I was all gaga over my now 8 year old daughter. I was learning how to adjust to motherhood and get ready to go back to school. Now, 8 years later, I am again learning how to accomodate not one but two babies AND and 8 year old VERY active daughter. The babies were a month old Saturday. It sucks how time seems to fly by. I feel like I just left the hospital. They are already growing out of the newborn look and forming their own little personalities. Berkeley is her own little person and is growing up way too fast herself. She is becoming an awesome softball player...and she loves playing, so I am happy that she has something that she can be proud of. The babies have done real well so far...sleeping through the whole game and the ride home, most of the time. They like to be outside, so that helps, and Berkeley is reassured that these babies are not going to interfere with her activites. I love my kids and am truely blessed to have such a great family of my own and can't wait to see what else life had to throw my way.

Babies!
On Thursday, April 12, 2007, we induced labor and brought our babies into the world. I had my appointment on Wednesday and he said that he was ready to put me out of my misery...thank goodness!! So, bright and early Thursday morning..5am, we were admitted to the hospital to get the show on the road. By 7am, my doctor had broken my water and I was full force on my pitocin drip. Because of all of the water I had retained, I had to be stuck two times to get my IV started...which did not make me happy since I am a super needle-phobic. As my pitocin drip was increased, though, Bennett's heartrate would drop as I was coming off of my contractions. This of course freaked out the nurses, and they were in and out of my room most of the morning. There were a few times that they even turned my pitocin drip off completely and called in to talk to my doctor. Then, to make things worse, because my blood pressure was somewhat high, I had to take a blood clot test to determine if I was eligible for the epidural. They poked a hole in my arm, and it had to clot in less than ten minutes or I was out of luck. I skinned by at just over 9 minutes. Talk about not being happy if I would have had to go through a double labor and delivery without the epidural!! Around noon, my doctor dropped by to check on me and my situation and decided that since I was progressing nicely, he would put me back on the pitocin and monitor it closely. Soon after, I decided that I had better get my epidural because I was progressing faster than I had thought I would. Again, because of all the fluid I was retainng, it took the anesthesiologist 2 attempts to get my epidural started. By about 3:15, I had made it to 9cm, at which point they took me back to the Operating Room where I would deliver the babies. Although I was delivering them naturally, the hospital protocol for multiple births is to deliver in the OR just in case they have to do an emergency c-section for some reason. Anyway, both babies gave my OB a run for his money and made him work for it! I pushed from about 3:30 to 4:06pm when Bennett was finally delivered with the help of the suction and then forceps. He had his cord wrapped around his neck, which is why his heartrate was doing crazy things during my contractions. About 5 minutes later, McKinley's water bag was broken, and I began pushing to get her out. She had the same problems as Bennett getting down the birthing canal, so she also was born with the help of the suction and forceps. She was born at 5:03pm. Both babies came into this world kicking and screaming, and I am so glad to have them here. Bennett weighed 6lbs 3oz and was 18in. long. McKinley weighed 6lbs 5oz and was also 18in. long. After all was said and done, we got back to my room and by 8:30pm, I had both babies in the room with me and lots of visitors wanting to welcome them into the world. As for me, I have had some issues with my blood pressure and it being elevated due to all of the water retention. I am having it monitored regularly and am on blood pressure medicine until I see my doctor in 6 weeks. I still can't believe that I have two healthy babies and that I was able to have them naturally. Berkeley is beside herself and just has taken to them both wonderfully. She is just a little mommy. We are so blessed to have such an awesome family!

Reflecting on the past 9 months.....
As I sit here, I am having mixed emotion of relief that the end is finally in sight on top of a little sadness that this is the end of such a blessed time in my life. We will finally get to meet our babies next week. Amazing...absolutely amazing. The past month and a half has taken a toll on my body like I never thought possible...exhaustion, swelling, nausea, headaches, pulled muscles, stretched skin, backaches, rashes....Then again, I can only think about how awesome an experience it has been to be able to carry not one but two babies to term without any significant medical issues for me or the babies. It is such a blessing that all the yucky stuff just isn't even worth a second thought. I never in my wildest dreams thought I would have twins...much less a boy and a girl. As a sister of twins, I am not completely clueless to what I am about to get myself in, but I know being a Mom is a whole new story. I hope that I will be able to relate to Berkeley in a whole new way...since both of us are "big sisters of twins". I will be better able to relate with her in a big sister aspect regarding her feelings and emotions and actions. I know she will have a huge adjustment, but I think that she will be awesome, and I look forward to sharing all these experiences with her. I think our family is complete now, and we are in for a fun, crazy, wild ride ahead of us. Hang on because it is full speed ahead!

OB visit
Ok, so here is the latest and greatest…. I had an ultrasound yesterday (hopefully the last) and everything is looking great. Both babies are head down and ready to go. Bennett measured to weigh about 5lbs 4oz and McKinley measured to weigh about 5lbs 5oz. The tech said that they look to be very squished in their home as she had a hard time getting measurements because they are so balled up at this point. Today, I saw my OB, and had my first cervical check as well as the strep B test. I am dilated 2cm and effaced at about 50%. Bennett's heart rate was around 140ish and McKinley's was around 160ish. He wants to see me one more week before committing to induction, so at least one more week it is. Hopefully I will have an induction date next week after my appointment if I have shown any progress from today's measurements. Next week will be my 37th week, which is considered full term for twins, so I have beat the odds of having premature babies.

I am now a real teacher.....
I am now a REAL TEACHER!!! I received my 5 year standard license in the mail today. This is what I have been working toward for three years now. It was sort of a surprise because I have been waiting for my scores from my final assessment since the middle of February and have not received them. I was told by my assessor that if I passed, I would receive my scores by email, and if I failed, I would get my notification by mail. When I got this envelope today, my heart jumped to my throat because I immediately thought the worst. When I pulled out my license, I thought I was going to go into labor right then and there! The excitement and relief of being done was indescribable. YAY me!!!

35 weeks
Well, I have officially made it to 35 weeks. That is the magic number dictating whether these babies would be required to be transported to the NICU or not. So, now, whenever these babies get here, they can stay with me unless medically necessary to have them transported. I had my doctor call in a prescription for my "pregnancy rash" because it is gradually running up both of my legs and becoming unbearable. He put me on a 6 day steriod treatment. Hopefully by tomorrow, I will have enough in me that I can stop being so itchy. Today has been much better, but whenever I got hot, I would get to itching. The good thing is, this steriod will also help in maturing the babies' lungs. We are so ready for these babies to get here...and the countdown is on!!!

I met my goal!!
So, I have officially met my goal that I personally set for myself when I found out the we were having twins. My goal was to make it at least to Spring Break...and as of 3:40pm today, I am on Spring Break and I do not think I have too much longer to wait for these babies. I am so ready for them to be here. I know people say that I am just saying that...that when they get here my world is going to be turned upside-down, but I do not care at this point. I am ready to see them and hold them and love them and start our family as a family of FIVE. I know that I am so very blessed to be a chosen Mommy of twins...eight years ago, I was blessed with the best daughter anyone could ever ask for...she is awesome and I can't wait to share with her everything that goes along with being a sister of twins...I've been there and done that already....still am, I guess. It will be an awesome experience...has been already.

OB visit
Well, I am back from the doctor, and at this point I really feel like I am going to be pregnant FOREVER!!!! He says that I am doing fine...blood pressure was 120/84, and I measured at 42 week...grew 2 weeks in a 2 weeks period. No wonder my skin feels like it is about to rip open! He also, says that I have a good ole' case of Pregnancy Rash and as long as Benadryl cream is helping with itching, then I am good to go. Bennett's (baby A) heart rate was 134bpm, and McKinley's (baby B) heart rate was 152. It took awhile for us to find them...they kept hiding from the little heart rate wand.....I asked if he would sign off on me taking leave early and he said that he would, so Friday could be officially my last day at work until next year if I so desire! My next appointment is in 2 weeks, and I will have an Ultrasound and do the Strep B test and he also said he would start checking me at that point. I am very thankful that they are hanging strong, but I have officially moved from being just uncomfortable to being down right miserable and I will be very glad to get them here healthy, but out of my belly!

It is over!!!
I can officially say that testing is over and I survived!!! Thank the good Lord! I know testing is an exhausting week for everyone, but I feel like I have accomplished a HUGE feat by making it through without going into labor. I am pretty tired and am looking forward to staying in bed for as long as I want in the morning. If I didn't dialate or make any kind of progress after the stress of this week, then I don't know what will.

One day down!
Well, I accomplished to make it through one day of tests. Yay for me! My feet look like watermelons, but I did it nonetheless. One day down...3 more to go! The kids did great today, but compared to the rest of the week, today was a very short day. I hope they continue to strive and do their best. I felt really bad because at our break, I had a girl tell me that she wasn't feeling well. This one test was a two part test and if you didn't finish both parts, you wouldn't get a score for that test. So...I ask her if she thinks she can make it through this last test so she could get credit for taking it and she agreed to. As soon as the test was over, I sent her to the nurse...she came back a little while later to get her stuff because she was going home...with a 103 degree fever! I don't think I have ever felt so bad for one of my students than at that moment. This whole flu/cold stuff is rampant again...of course just in time for all of these tests! I am keeping my fingers crossed that I can avoid getting it...so far so good. Other than sinus issues off and on through this winter, I was able to avoid it. As was the rest of my crew! Anyway. I am glad today is over and that Spring Break in in a week and a half!

I think I am going to scratch a hole right through my stomach!
My stomach is SO freakin itchy I can hardly stand it anymore! I feel like it is stretched so tight that if stretches anymore it is just going to rip open! The next few days are going to be pretty rough...we start testing tomorrow and go the rest of the week for at least 3 hours a day! YUCK!!! I hope that I can stick through it without any problems...

Just another Saturday
Well, I'm still going strong! I had class all day today...from 7am to 4:30pm...only one more and I am officially a REAL teacher...as opposed to the "fake one" I have been pretending to be for the past two years. No, seriously, when this program is over, I will have my regular teacher's license. I will be so glad with these Saturday classes are over! Today was pretty much miserable...sitting for 10 hours made my feet blow up like balloons. The babies behaved pretty well, though, they were nice to their mommy and didn't poke and jab too much throughout the day. Just enough to remind me that they were still there....

OB visit
I just returned from what HAS to be the longest doctor's visit ever!!! My appointment was at 4:30, and I didn't get to see my doctor until well after 6pm. My ultrasound was great. Bennett is about 3 lbs 12 oz heartrate 149bpm, and McKinley is about 3 lbs 10oz. heartrate 155bpm. I am at 32 weeks today, and so far so good!! Both babies were transverse last time and they are both head down now...so it looks as if a planned delivery is out for me for the time being. My cervix was a little over 4cm (can't remember the exact length), but my doctor says that is great for me being at 32 weeks with multiples. I finally will begin my bi-weekly appointments, so that makes me feel a little more at ease for the last few weeks. My BP was 128/74, so he told me that swelling was not a concern right now either. He said that if we can hold off until 35 weeks, the babies will not be required to go to the NICU (which is in another hospital about 10 miles away) unless at all necessary. Thats only 3 weeks away, so I think that is very doable considering my appointment today. Anway, I guess I am in it for the long haul...YIKES!!!

31 weeks...and the countdown continues!
I am officially at 31 weeks today. Hopefully only 5 more to go! I nested in my classroom last week and got all of my lesson plans FINISHED from now til the end of school, so I am set for these babies to make their arrival whenever they see fit....sooner would be much nicer than later. I have another ultrasound and OB visit next week, so I will be interested to see what all comes of that...especially since I think my CANKLES are here to stay for awhile. Anyway, its almost over, I know...and the fun will just be starting. We have severe weather headed our way tonight, so it ought to make for a long day tomorrow.

Big Sister
Today, Berkeley and I attended a Siblings Class at the hospital. There were 3 other children there, but of course, she was the only one that was expecting twin siblings. The nurse that did the class was awesome!! She taught them how to hold a newborn and why it is important to support their heads, how to change diapers, hold a bottle correctly, and (most impressive to me) signs of the baby choking and what to do. They got to see the nursery...there was only one baby in there at the time, but it was a little one...about 5 pounds, so Berkeley was able to get a real idea of just how small our babies will be. The class was held in one of the birthing suites, so they were able to ask questions about all the stuff that was in there...the warming bed, montiors, etc. She really enjoyed herself and I think is going to do AWESOME when the babies arrive. So...she is officially a CERTIFIED BIG SISTER now!!

So...she is officially a CERTIFIED BIG SISTER now!!

fat feet
I HAVE CANKLES!!! I am so thankful that I have had such a great pregancy with these babies, but I am ready for my feet to go back to normal. I am so happy it has been warm this week...I have actually broken out the flip flops...in FEBRUARY!! Too bad the weather is expected to get cold again next week.

UGGGHHH!
Well, I have been able to talk my doctor into prescribing me some medicine to try and kick this cold out. I feel like crap!!! And to top it all off, today was my final assessment in getting my regular teaching license. So, as crappy as I have felt, I mustered up enough energy to put on this 3 hour show for this state assessor. I say "show" because , in my opinion, that is what it is. I have been trained for two years now on exactly HOW to answer the EXACT questions that I was asked in the Pre-Interview, then the assessor observes me in actin in the classroom..which I staged a "dress rehersal" of the lesson with anouther group of my students yesterday, then on to the post-interview. The only thinking involved is applying what we have learned in how to answer these questions to the lesson that is taught for the observation. But, as soon as I say all of this...I will probably fail this and have to redo it in the fall. Hopefully I got enough pity points with being pregnant and sick and still at work full time at this point in thte game. Anyway, lets hope that this Z-pack kicks into high gear, because there is still tomorrow and I have class from 7:30 to 3:30 on Saturday. YUCK!!!

I feel like CRAP!!!
I woke up this morning at about 3:30 with a clogged up head. I managed to make it to school and through the day, but it was pretty tough. All I can take is Sudafed and Benadryl, so I am hoping that this will not amount to much more than it already is and that it won't last long. I have my licensure assessment (a 3 hour ordeal) on Thursday, and of course I pick this week to get sick...after I have made it through not getting all of the COOTIES that have been going around school for the past month and half. I don't think it would be so bad, but the babies now think that they have to be up in my ribs...making it that much harder to breathe through all of the congestion. I am usually not a whiner, but this SUCKS!!! Good Night everyone...I am going to go and try and get at least SOME rest.

February 12, 2007 - Monday Not a fun day!!
Today, I had my 3 hour fasting glucose test. IT was absolutely not fun at all! I had to start fasting at 10pm last night and didn't get to eat until about 11:30 today. I began my day by having to be at the lab at 8am to have my fasting blood work done. Immediately after, I had to drink a double stregnth glucola drink in a 5 minute window. From there....a whole bunch of waiting! Every hour for 3 hours, I had to have my blood drawn. For someone who is a needle-phobic like me, that was a little more than what I like in a day's time. Anyway, I finished at about 11:15 and as I was leaving, I got a little woozy feeling. I went straight to Bill's office just down the road from the doctor's office and had him take me to get soemthing to eat...FAST! Once I had eaten, I felt fine. I went home and took a nap and have felt pretty good since. Hopefully this test cones back normal. I will know something on Wednesday regarding my results.
February 8, 2007 - Thursday update
So, I have come to the first snag of my whole pregnancy. I FAILED my 1 hour glucose screen that I had on Wednesday. This means that on Monday I will spend my morning in the doctor's office taking the 3 hour glucose test. I will have to begin fasting at 10pm on Sunday night and be at the lab at 8am to have my fasting blood drawn. I will then have to drink a glucose drink and have my blood drawn at 1 hour and 2 hours after I have finished the drink. If I fail this I will be considered as having gestational diabetes and will probably have begin watching the things I eat. YUCK!! Talk about not cool...telling a pregnant woman what she can and can't eat!!
February 7, 2007 - Wednesday OB visit update
So, I had my 7 month OB visit today. I am 28 weeks along, measuring at 35 weeks, and my doctor feels at this time that there is no reason why I shouldn't make it to at least 36 weeks. I took my glucose test today, and they told me to only expect to hear something if the results came back abnormal. I also had another ultrasound today. The little boy weighed 2lbs 8 oz. and his heart rate was about 160 bpm, doubling his weight from last month exactly. The little girl out weighed him by an ounce this time at 2lbs 9oz…she too doubled her size and then some. Her heart rate was 144bpm. As always, since she is on top, we were able to see her much clearer and saw that she had a little Buddha belly…pretty cute!! And finally, she let us get a good profile of the boy. Both babies are transverse now…meaning they are sitting sideways in my belly, and they have their feet in each other's faces…already aggravating each other! Anyway, my doctor said that there was no reason for me to come in in 2 weeks, so we are still on the monthly visits. He said next time we would probably begin the 2 week visits….I will be at about 32 weeks by then. This week marks my entry into the 3rd trimester, so not much longer at all!! Hopefully I will be able to send a new picture…I am all belly that is for sure!!! I can't imagine how tightly stuffed those babies must feel in there! Oh, well. For now that is all the news I have.
January 1, 2007 - Monday Happy New Year!!!
My family has been here this past weekend! We had our family Christmas and just spent time hanging out not doing much of anything. It was nice. I start back to school tomorrow, so I guess I will call it a night at a decent hour tonight.
December 20, 2006 - Wednesday Berkeley feels the babies move
Berkeley and I felt the babies move today for the first time. Of course I have been being able to feel them from the inside, but this was the first day that we have been able to feel them from the outside. She was so excited and bragged first thing to Bill when he got home this afternoon. I think she is gonna make one heck of a big sister!
December 7, 2006 - Thursday OB appointment and Ultrasound
We had our monthly ultrasound and OB appointment today. Guess what?!?!?! We are not only being blessed with two babies, we are getting one of each!! Needless to say we are very excited! The boy (baby A) measured about 11 oz, and the girl (baby B) measured about 10 oz. Right on target for their ages. We saw their first fight! Yes, we could actually see them punching at each other. It was priceless...Berkeley got quite a kick out of that. The doctor says that everything is progressing perfectly and to keep doing what I have been doing.
December 2, 2006 - Saturday Road Trip!!
It was definitely a sight to see!! Sarah, Tasha, Heather and I bravely make our way to Branson today to spend the day shopping. Ok, the sight to see....3 of the 4 of us are very obviously pregnant. We definitely turned some heads, that's for sure! We had a great time and got alot of shopping out of the way. By the time we got home on Sunday, we were all completely exhausted!
December 1, 2006 - Friday NO SCHOOL!!
Yesterday, we got hit by a pretty strong winter storm that sent us home at 11:30, and today we have no school! Yippee!
November 30, 2006 - Thursday Big Belly
Ok, so I think I have reached the size that I was when I was about 40 weeks with Berkeley. How big can I possibly get?!?! I am only half way there. I guess time will tell.
November 29, 2006 - Wednesday Yep, It's another cold!
I even went to the point of sleeping on the couch last night so that I could get comfortable enought to get some minimal rest. At this point, I do not know what is worse, not being able to sleep because of the lack of comfort, or being clogged up so badly!
November 27, 2006 - Monday Just call me the tissue queen!
Either I am getting another cold, or my hormone are in overdrive right now! It has been hellacious for the past few days. I don't feel bad, I just can't stop having to blow my nose. Oh well, I guess it could be worse.
November 23, 2006 - Thursday Happy Turkey Day!!!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! We are taking it easy today and just hanging out. We ate lunch at some friend's house. Everything is still moving right along. I am starting to feel the babies a little more each day. We are getting into the fun part indeed...I loved it when Berkeley started to move. It is something that is completely undescribable unless you have personally experienced it! Now, ask me in a few months if it is still fun having TWO moving around in there and I may have a different answer, but for right now, I am loving every second of it!
November 20, 2006 - Monday Thanksgiving Break....finally!!!
We have all week off for Thanksgiving Break. Teachers have meetings on Monday and Tuesday, but its better than being "in school". I am definitely in need of this break!
November 16, 2006 - Thursday Are they moving?
We had a conference in Little Rock on Thursday and Friday. A busy two days, thats for sure! I think I felt a baby movement in my belly last night. I am not 100%, but it sure felt like something in there wiggling around.
November 9, 2006 - Thursday OB visit
Today was our 3rd OB visit. We got to hear the babies' heartbeats for the first time. Berkeley was absolutely amazed!!!
Baby A: 164bpm, found in the lower right belly area/groin
Baby B: 156bpm, hanging out around my left pelvic bone and doing gymnastics!
Everything seems to be progressing nicely thus far. He says today when I ask, that he thinks that they are identical. Wait...last time he says fraternal. I don't know there is something that tells me that they are fraternal. My guess is that AT LEAST ONE is a boy, if not both. I do nto think that both are girls, though. Call it what you will..mother's instinct, whatever. Ialso asked my doctor about the headaches...and he told me that it was all normal, my body was just not used to have the extra hormones floating around...much less DOUBLE the extra hormones!! Always blame the hormones!!!

November 2, 2006 - Thursday On the Road again.....
Kara and Nick are getting married this weekend, so we are off to Columbus for the festivities. I hope this will be the last time that we have to travel until after the babies get here...these long trips are beginning to take a toll on me and my back.
November 1, 2006 - Wednesday Anyone wanna go shopping???
I am quickly outgrowing all of my clothes. It is now very evident that I am pregnant...not just getting fat. At almost 4 months, I look like I was when I was about 6 months with Berkeley...This is going to be a long pregnancy!
October 28, 2006 - Saturday Berkeley is 8 Today!!
We had Berkeley's birthday party...a sleepover, nonetheless with nine 7 and 8 year old girls...what was I thinking!! I started the day off with another bad headache and nausea. By the afternoon, and after I puked my guts up in the Wal-Mart parking lot, I was fine. The girls began arriving around 6pm and it was automatically mass chaos in the Mardis house!! We cooked hotdogs and the girls played and watched movies. It went over fairly well. Only two ended up wanting to go home. Not bad for the first sleepover...and I survived!!!
October 25, 2006 - Wednesday Bad Headache
Now entering my second trimester...and what better to enter with than a migraine accompanied by nausea. GREAT!!! I had to leave work at lunch because I could not stand it anymore...I tried my hardest to make it through the day, but I just did not make it.
October 23, 2006 - Monday Baby #4
So, I get to my classroom this morning and the first thing, Sarah shows up...uhoh, what did I do wrong, I thought! But no, it turns out that she too has joined the preggo club 2007! She thinks that she is about 10-12 weeks, so that should put her the end of May, first of June...which gives us a grand total of 4 babies in 2 months. HOLY COW!!! What is in the water??!?!?
October 22, 2006 - Sunday Balloon Races
We went to Natchez this weekend for the Balloon Races. As always, it was fast paced and I feel like I need an extra day to recouperate from the traveling. It was good to see everyone and visit...Beth and Katelyn were in town also, which was nice. Bekeley enjoyed hanging out with Katelyn. We also had Berkeley and Katelyn's birthday party since neither will be in Natchez on their actual birthday.
October 12, 2006 - Thursday And the verdict is.....
Well, we had our first ultrasound today, and lo and behold there is not one, but TWO babies floating around in my tummy!!! Yes…we are having TWINS. Whoever told me twins skipped a generation LIED because it landed right inside my belly!! We are very excited, dumbfounded, and everything else at this time. As a preliminary guess the doctor is thinking that they are fraternal...look like they are in 2 sacs. I am still set at a May 2nd due date putting me at 11 weeks and 1 day today. This definitely explains alot...why I am already showing, my appetite, the morning sickness...
October 6, 2006 - Friday more babies!!
Ok, so there must be something in the water. Heather told us that she was pregnant. She is due April 21st...12 days BEFORE my due date. How exciting to have someone to go through this with!!!
October 2, 2006 - Monday Maybe, just maybe.....
I don't want to jinx anything, but today makes for 2 days in a row that I have not noticed any nausea...could it be that it is finally over! It's not even the end of my 1st trimester yet!! I'm not celebrating yet, though...just wondering.
September 28, 2006 - Thursday Can't wait!
I went back to school today. I probably should have taken another day, but I am trying to save as many sick days as possible for my maternity leave. I feel a little better, though. With this cold and the whole nausea thing, it is a wonder my kids are learning anything at all!! Am I whining again?
September 27, 2006 - Wednesday I'm at home today
So I finally decided to stay at home today and try and kick this cold. I called my doctor, and he pretty much told me that there was nothing we could do except let it run its course...unless I started to run fever. GREAT!
September 26, 2006 - Tuesday Diamond Diva
Berkeley's team wins again!!! Berkeley even made the winning RBI tonight!!!
September 25, 2006 - Monday I need SLEEP!!
This cold is getting the better of me...on top of this whole nausea thing...morning sickness, whatever, to be stopped up to the point I have to attempt sleeping sitting up so that I can half-way breathe! GO AWAY!!! Enough is enough!
September 22, 2006 - Friday I'm sick already..?!?!?!
Well, my first cold of the school year, and we haven't even been in school a month! What sucks is that I can't take any medicine except for sudafed...and that's not helping any! I am trying to weather it out and not have to miss any school, but this is insane! My ears hurt, and there is so much pressure behind my eyeballs that I feel like if I blow my nose too hard, they are going to pop right out of the sockets!!
September 16, 2006 - Saturday Nesting Already?,,,Bill Anyway...
We started cleaning out the guest bedroom today to begin preparations for the nursery. Bill wants to put hardwood down like in the rest of the house, so we figure if we take it in small steps these preparations won't hurt the pocketbook so badly!
September 14, 2006 - Thursday WHY?
WHY ARE MY PANTS GETTING TIGHT ON ME ALREADY???? I AM ONLY 6 WEEKS OUT. THIS IS NUTS, I TELL YOU!!!!
September 12, 2006 - Tuesday 1st OB visit
It's official!! We are going to have a baby. As of right now, our due date is set for May 2, 2007. We did all of the initial bloodwork today and just did my medical history. Nothing too very exciting. Berkeley was with us, and was very inquisitive about all the blood and why they were taking it from my arm. I think that was her first time to see blood being taken from the arm. Anyway, they said my next visit , I would have an ultrasound to make sure everything is going well thus far and that everything is on target. So far so good...just hate this nausea stuff...makes for a long day at school.
September 12, 2006 - Tuesday Diamond Diva
Berkeley had another softball game tonight. The Diamond Divas WIN again!!
September 7, 2006 - Thursday BLAHHHHHHH
Ok, so I am beginning to think that this pregnancy is going to be a little different than with Berkeley. I can officially say that I think I am having some kind of sickness...not specifically "morning sickness"...just nausea if and when I get hungry. i feel like I am eating all the time just to not feel so yucky!
September 6, 2006 - Wednesday Pregnancy Update
If my calculations are correct, We should have a due date of May 2, 2007. That would make me 6 weeks today. I scheduled my first OB appointment for August 12th at 4:00pm.
September 5, 2006 - Tuesday Diamond Divas
Berkeley had her first machine pitch softball game tonight. For the first time behind a machine pitch, she did real well...made contact with the ball both at bats, but never made it to base. Her team...The Diamond Divas won the game!
August 31, 2006 - Thursday Ok, So We couldn't Wait
So, we couldn't wait. We told Berkeley tonight. We made it a big deal...took her out to eat and had a "happy" for her...her very own fully equipped diaper bag. I don't think she knew what to think at first...like we were kidding or something. But, by the time we made it to the football game, it was all she could talk about and announce to everyone she saw.
August 24, 2006 - Thursday BIG NEWS
Well, you will never believe it...we are going to have a baby! I took a pregnancy test tonight and it almost immediately showed us a positive result. We want to wait to tell Berkeley...just in case (God forbid) somethings happens. Sadly, one of my close friends just had a miscarriage and Berkeley was pretty torn up about it, so this would be total devastation for her if it happened to her baby.
Not sure how this will work
I have decided to finally move over all of my blogs from Myspace to here. So, I am gonna start posting one by one and I will date them so that the time frame makes sense through the transfer....
So, without further ado....let the transfering begin......
So, without further ado....let the transfering begin......
What to do, What to do.....
Ok, I really need to find a better way to make money and stay at home with my children. It is obvious that this is not the best choice for me as a mother and a wife of a man the travels with his work. Now, I am not complaining. I am just at a crossroad in my life where this is just not working. I am out of my class more than I can shake a stick at, and when I am there, I am not only trying to play catch up with my students, but also with the grading of papers, logging grades, progress monitoring, testing, and the list goes on and on. I really am at my wit's end...I am making myself crazy. I love my children, and I love my job (most days)....but my children will always come first, so where does that leave me? Especially when our family's well-being is just as much dependent on my paycheck as it is Bill's. I really just do not know....We need prayers....a miracle, anything. Something has got to get better....fast!
